Dental emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. While you might be worried about landing in one, you can stay ahead of them by preparing a kit with all your essentials. Keeping the right tools in a convenient place can help you handle these situations more confidently. That said, you might wonder what you should include in your pouch. Here are six must-haves.

Dental Floss

Floss is a tried-and-true solution to remove debris between your teeth. Having it handy can knock out anything in these spaces that is causing irritation. If you struggle using this tool, then you can try floss picks or interdental brushes as an alternative.

Dental Wax

Dental wax is great for braces wearers, but also for a chipped tooth or fallen restoration. It can act as a barrier against sharp edges from damage. That way, the structure stays protected, and you don’t cut your lips, inner cheek, or tongue.

Over-the-Counter Medication

If you’re in discomfort, pain relievers are great to have on hand. They can ease tenderness until you can visit your dentist. Just follow the directions on the bottle. That said, remember that this is a temporary solution. You need permanent treatment from your dentist.

Cotton Balls or Gauze Pads

Bleeding is often a symptom of many dental emergencies. It’s important to get it under control, so cotton balls and gauze pads are great for this. You can gently bite down on them to apply pressure. They can also be used to protect an injury in your mouth.

Small Container with a Lid

A knocked-out tooth or fallen restoration can leave you stressed, but your dentist will want to see the structure. Having a small container ready means you don’t have to scramble to find one. If it’s a tooth you’re putting in there, then fill it with milk or your saliva.

Your Emergency Dentist’s Card

In the end, it doesn’t hurt to have your emergency dentist’s card. They typically have their phone number, address, and hours on it, so that information is readily available and you avoid doing any frantic searching. That way, you know exactly where to go when you do need urgent oral care.
